Peace of mind with a security mailbox system
Roxana Samano - Turlock Journal Staff reporter
10/22/2007 - Local inventor Juan Pineda Sanchez has always been entertained with ideas of creating devices that will benefit people.
A couple of years ago Sanchez and wife Maria Pineda encountered a problem regarding the U.S. postal mail. Pineda was expecting a check in the mail and after weeks and weeks of waiting for it, the couple went to a U.S. postal office only to be told that the check had already been delivered to their home.
"I had always heard about it (mail theft), but now I know how it feels," Sanchez said. "I thought 'how can I protect myself in the future?'"
After three years of perfecting the idea of a security mailbox system, Sanchez got the opportunity to work with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This is the second patent that Sanchez has received. The first patent was also a mailbox but without enhanced features. Sanchez is confident that his invention will be successful because it protects homeowner's financial, personal and confidential statements by mail.
"Mail theft and identity theft is a big problem," Sanchez said. "It is the fasting growing crime in the country." The security mailbox alarm system can be installed into any mailbox. The system notifies the owner that mail has been delivered, avoiding numerous trips to the mailbox and notifies the owner if someone is breaking in to the mailbox. "If someone tried to break in, the mailbox would first give off a warning noise. After the first attempt of breaking in, the security system will notify trained professions, if activated for a monthly fee, and make a loud noise," he said.

Several years ago, Juan Pineda found himself waiting for his wife's paycheck. And waiting. And waiting.
After more than a month, police called to tell him that the check had been stolen from his mailbox. While he did eventually get the money, he decided that from then on, he would be the only one opening his mail. This led to the invention of the Security Mailbox - a mailbox with a car alarm.
If the Security Mailbox is tampered with or bumped, a nifty alarm goes off inside the house. The mailbox is also capable of sending an alarm to a remote security center 24/7. The only ones with access to the box would be the owner or a mailman with a security card.
